I love shoes. When it
comes to topping off your outfit, jewelry, jackets, scarves and headbands (to
name a few) are always great additions but, in my opinion, there is no
accessory more important than what your feet bring to your destination.
With March here, the snow is beginning to
melt and we feel those slight raises in temperature that feel warmer than they
actually are. Even though the snow is
melting, come March there is one aspect standing between us fashionistas and the
colorful wedges, the leather sandals and funky Toms we are longing to strap on
our freshly manicured feet: the long and rainy month of April.
In most cases, rain can be a downer on the fashionista’s day
but there is one solution to make splashing through puddles in your fabulous
outfit fun again: rain boots. Yes,
indeed you might be thinking, why would I put on ugly, yellow rubber boots with
my extraordinary outfit, but let me give you some tips and tricks to looking
fabulous in rain boots.
Hunter boots and top hats. Yes! You can pull it off. It is
the day after a huge rainstorm and the temperatures have cooled down a bit
leaving huge puddles wherever you walk on your way to class and the dark clouds
make you want to leave the bright colors in your closet. It’s a day for blending in but still keeping
your fashionista status. So pull out
your favorite dark wash skinny denim and a comfortable grey tee. Pair your simple look with dark green
Hunter’s and a black top hat to hide your messy do and some sunglasses. Before you leave your building, throw on a
neutral colored jacket to keep you warm from the wind and your favorite pair of
leather gloves. If you have time, I
always enjoy the simplest pop of color to top off an outfit, so add red nail
color for some sass.
Rain boots are perfect for expressing yourself. They are colorful and sold in many different
styles. So for that cloudy, cold April
day where most people will stay inside make it a point to throw on a colorful
pair of rain boots on your way to class, grabbing coffee with your best gal pal
or stepping out of the taxi to run errands downtown. Style up your black leggings with an oversized
crème sweater to keep you warm and knee high cherry red Hunter’s for your first
pop of color. Accessorize your outfit
with a large leather tote for your books or purchases, a light gold or silver
bracelet to extenuate your wrist or a funky phone case for when you keep in
touch with your buds and add some nude color to your lips. Lastly, if your walking from class to class,
from the taxi to the coffee shop or strolling down Michigan Avenue I doubt
you’ll want the rain to ruin your perfect do so add an umbrella of your choice to give you that city girl chic look.
For a weekend day out on the town and a nice dinner date, I
always prefer a classy look. So go all
out with a maroon colored pair of jeans and a thin beige leather belt to
accessorize. Take a risk with a
“different” pair of rain boots. My
personal favorite has two clasps and a cute felt pattern covering the back of
the boot. Add some cute socks to draw
attention to the shoe. To add that
little bit of “sexy” for your night out with your best man, wear a silky
spaghetti strap black top to keep his eyes glued to you and a cardigan or light
jean blouse that you can take off throughout your date. He will adore it. Accessorize with rose jewelry like a dainty
watch and earrings, a black clutch, some sunglasses and a vest in case it gets
colder at night than you expected.
Towards the end of April we still experience those light
showers but the sun feels warm on our faces and lets us look forward to the
summer that is knocking on the door. So, start to move those heavy sweaters to the back of your closet and pull forward
your favorite shorts and light tights. Throw on a light sweater and some colorful knee high socks with your
styling rain boots. Trade out your tote
bags and clutches for an adorable backpack to show off your studious side. Accessorize with your favorite bracelet and
some dangly earrings. To show off your
earrings, try putting your hair into a bun or a messy up do and let your skin
absorb that Vitamin D it missed so much over the long, colorless and cold
winter.
There you have it, simple inspirations to making the rainy
weather a bit more tolerable. In no time
summer should be here.
